    Unanswered: Sending Email on some specific event (was "Sql Server 2005")

    Hi,
    I need a help from you all on Sending Email on some specific event from SQL SERVER 2005. Any Idea how Do I proceed?

    Yes either create a DTS job with the Send Mail task included or create a stored procedure including xp_sendmail(http://doc.ddart.net/mssql/sql70/xp_aa-sz_11.htm). Make sure you have privileges to use xp_sendmail.

    There are LOTS of choices here depending on your requirements:

    1. If it's a performance based event that can be measured through SQL/WMI, then use alerts in SQL 2005 (under SQL Server Agent).

    2. If this is an wider scale solution where you are looking to generate e-mails to a lot of subscribers based on content that you monitor periodically, then you should probably consider SQL Notification Services.

    3. Otherwise you can do this using SSIS (the successor to DTS). Note that SSIS has a steep learning curve to get started. But once you're into it, it should be okay.
