    Unanswered: UTF8 or Latin charset?

    Hi,

am using MySQL 5.0. Which charset would you advise to use UTF8 or Latin and why? Also what is the default charset for MySQL 5.0 and what is the deafult charset for SQL server and Oracle?

Depends on what you're doing really.
The default charset is whatever MySQL server is configured to use.

what character sets do you believe your users will require you to support?
do you expect visitors to require Kanji or other seemingly exotic character sets.

for the vast majority of websites in the western world MySQL as installed out of the box is perfectly adequate.

if you need to support other languages then you may need to use another character set.

it depends on you and your websites users
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
