Exclamation Unanswered: newbie - indexing question

    Hi there.

I have a question about the difference between two SQL statements to create an index ... and I'm wondering if it can impact performance. BTW. we are running Oracle 10g. The first index was used in 8i. When our developer tried it in 10g, it failed, so they just didn't include all the extra parameters and created the second Sql statement you see below.

the first sql statement I have is:

    CREATE INDEX MYSCHEMA.IX_INDEX MYSCHEMA.TABLE1(FIELD1 ) TABLESPACE MYSCHEMADATA PCTFREE 10 INITRANS 2 MAXTRANS 255 STORAGE ( INITIAL 128K NEXT 128K MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645 PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1) LOGGING

CREATE INDEX MYSCHEMA.IX_INDEX ON MYSCHEMA.TABLE1(FIELD1) TABLESPACE USERS

The first one *might* not be anymore apropiate on your 10g database.

There's no need to be worrying about the storage clauses at this time, the second statement is just OK (it will inherit the storage clause of the tablespace the segment will reside -- in this case USERS).
