Unanswered: Any reason not to use Sybase internal compression for backups?

    Dear All,

Do you see any reason not to use Sybase internal compression for database backups?

Right now I'm seeing that all our database backkups are not being compressed and they are taking up too much space. Is there any logical reason or downfall with using Sybase's internal compression?

    Thank you.

Compression is CPU intensive, not recommended to go any higher than 3 on busy boxes.

ftmjr: hi, what we do is to have a background process archive our backups. The ratio of a compressed vs uncompressed file has a big difference. I think they have encorporated the compression feature in ASE 15.
