Location New York City
Job ID NTI73648
Position Type Full Time

We are in search of a Storage Area Networking Specialist for a mid-sized shop where the staff wears more hats than at a larger company; i.e., this is not a position where you would come up with a design and hand-off to another group for implementation. Rather, you would take ownership of the entire project from start to finish.

You need at least 3-5 years experience supporting a substantial SAN (or EMC) environment (more than 100TB – the current environment consists of 200TB), and 3-5 years supporting a RedHat Linux environment (version 4 preferred).

Perl or shell scripting.

Should be experienced with Veritas NetBackup.

Linux performance tuning and backup/recovery.

Must be facile in data switches (McData preferred, but Brocade might work).

The environment includes McData storage directors with a myriad of external switches. RedHat Linux servers comprise the biggest number of servers in the domain that also includes Solaris, IBM AIX and a few SUSE.

Most of the storage is allocated to Oracle.

Must have solid core knowledge of SAN and hands-on executing that knowledge (design, engineering, and implementation).

The environment consists of a team of 12 people (3 teams) at full strength (currently at 10). The position requires weekly on-call on a rotating basis and the majority of upgrades, enhancements, etc. are usually done on weekends.
Each team has outward facing client responsibilities.

The interview process consists of a technical interview (about 1 – 1.5 hours) with the UNIX team leaders and the OS Group VP followed by interviewing with a couple of the clients being supported (probably the Applications Development Group, and the DBA Group).

The technical interview includes a test that involves solving a problem by writing a shell script.

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary plus bonus. Substantial benefits package (details on request).

I’ve placed several IT professionals with this client over the years and can speak in depth about the management, culture and the organization. Below is a quote from one of the senior level IT professionals I recently placed with this client:

“Niche Technologists placed me in a great company, one of those rare companies who really do care about their employees. I’m working with most of the senior IT management on a weekly basis which is great . . . all are very well-heeled in their professions. My manager is a great boss and funny. I could not ask for a better environment in which to be.”
