    Unanswered: List all database name on server

    hi all!

    How can I see (query) list of all database name on oracle database server.

    You can't. There is no list of database instances available (except maybe inside a RAC environment).

    But I assume you are coming from a SQL Server background. A SQL Server "database" usually maps to an Oracle user. To get a list of all users in the database issue a SELECT * FROM all_users.

    On *nix flavor servers you could find out the database "instances" by looking at:

    1) oratab file in /etc or /var/opt/oracle directories (if the file has been updated).

    2) issue the following command:

    ps -ef|grep smon
