Unanswered: Creating Table Relationships in front end

I have a front end database which links to a back end, and also links tables from another database - so in effect I have two back end databases. The only way I can see to create the table relationships is to do so in the front end, as I want to create a relationship between one table in one backend, and another in the other. Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to do that i.e performance constraints?

a guess: if these backends are Access JET tables then all the CPU action is taking place at the front-end anyway so it shouldn't make things worse.

if not JET, other considerations apply: please detail.
