    Unanswered: Newbie question: DESC <view_name>

So, I'm writing an application and I'd like to get the column names from a particular view from my database. The pl/sql statement DESC <view_name> describes the view adequately. The problem is I'm not sure how to get that information back to me. I need to create some kind of procedure that outputs the results of DESC <view_name> as some kind of useable object.

Correction, DESC is a SQL*Plus command.
