What prevents you from installing Oracle 10g under the existing OS user? If there's another Oracle product there, just install 10gR2 into different directory (i.e. Oracle Home).

It is not advised by Oracle, but each Oracle release can be installed with a different OS user

I have been installing oracle since Oracle 5. Use the same OS user, but use a different directory to store the oracle code. The only reason to install it using a different OS user would be to stop whoever is administrating the previous version from accessing the new version.
