Unanswered: creating a uid in a select statement

Here's a new one for you all

I have a select statement that grabs the fields that I want; however, the data is duplicated with no UID. this is fine, but i do want to create a UID field without creating a table and importing the data into that table. basically a one shot query.

anyone have an idea to accomplish this?

    Ooohkay, that's a confusing description

So you want to add a "unique number" for each row in your select query?

I've never done it succesfully in a query. However, it's a simple matter to create a report, using the query as its record source, and with a bit of VBA coding display a line number...

You mention that this is a one off, and you don't want to create a table with an auto number column (this would give you your UID)... Can you justify that?
