    Hi,

    I have configured two listeners (listener1 and listener2) and when i am trying
    to start listener2 after listener1 is started, i am getting the error

    MY listener.ora:

    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    )

    LISTENER1 =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = saf.ind.com)(PORT = 1522))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC))
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER2 =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = db01)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1)
    (SID_NAME = db01)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    )

    LISTENER2 =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = saf.ind.com)(PORT = 1523))

    How are you trying to start LISTENER2?

    Have you tried:

    lsnrctl start listener2

    Wink

    Thanks for ur help.
    I have found out the cause of the problem.
    The problem seems to be with my listener.ora file.
    I have the same key value for both listener1 as well as listener2.
    In my case, it is EXTPROCas can be seen from below line
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC))
    So we can only start one listener at a time.
    Changing the extproc key of listener2 to EXTPROC1 solves the problem.
    Having the same value for the KEY will not allow to start two listeners.
