    Unanswered: DROP table

Would like to ask if dropping a table would free-up the allocated tablespace in Oracle 7.3.4?

    Thanks!

It depends upon what exactly your mean by "would free-up the allocated tablespace".

Dropping the table won't return space to the OS; won't make available disk space increase at OS level.

If dropping the table would free-up space on the OS level.

How about "truncate table" if just incase i will encounter (ORA-1653 - unable to extend table/cluster <TableName> by 682 in tablespace <TableSpaceName>), would this command free-up the space on the OS level?

    Thanks!

Dropping a table will free up space in the tablespace, but will NOT reduce the size of the datafiles making up the tablespace.
