    EnterpriseDB is based on PostgreSQL

EnterpriseDB is based on postgres so configuring your security works exactly the same. Depending on your pg_hba.conf settings you can allow passwords or not. In general, of course, you should be validating.

For more info, check the docs for pg_hba.conf. You can also buy my book, The EnterpriseDB: The Definitive Reference. It's on amazon and should be shipping in the next week or so.

Chapter 20 in the PostgreSQL documentation (online) should get you started.
