    Quick question ...

When running RMAN full backup and hot backup level 0, will backup sizes be the same? Why? why not?

    Thanks.

    Cool

No, the RMAN backup will be smaller because it will not save the empty blocks but only the blocks containing data, whereas the hot backup will copy your datafiles that may contain emtpy blocks

An RMAN full backup and level 0 backup are effectively the same. They will be the same in size.

I think scheu got confused with non-RMAN hot backup and RMAN backup.

    That's what I thought too .....
But when I ran RMAN incremental hot backup level 0, the backup set size is about 1/2 size of RMAN FULL backup set ...... Both are using compressed option.

Are you comparing just the backupsets for the datafiles?

Can you post the output of SHOW ALL and the actual backup commands that you are issuing?
