    Unanswered: Adding space Data only

When add space to database I issue the command

alter database ssbb on disk_dev_6 = 50; it will add that disk has data and log.

I want to add data only, how to do that. if i am doing anything wrong let me know.

in other instance(long time back) it added device has usage : data only.

Your database did already have one or more devices with
mixed data and log. Were they separate, ASE would
have added the new device as data only.

Now, simply remove the logsegment for those devices
you want for data only but are now mixed:
    use ssbb
    go
    sp_dropsegment "logsegment", ssbb, mydevice1
    go
    sp_dropsegment "logsegment", ssbb, mydevice2
    go

This doesn't remove log pages from those devices, but
normal database activity will eventually clear old log pages,
    thus removing them.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have tried on my test database. it worked fine.

We use sybase with autosys (job scheudling tool). When installed it comes with master device which data and log. does it effect this scenario?

And when we added on this box it was adding data and log.

After trying your suggestion it worked. Thanks again.
