    Unanswered: xp_cmdshell

    Hi All,

I've recently installed SQL Server 2005 and now trying to enable xp_cmdshell through SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration. However, I am getting the following error:

User does not have permission to perform this action.
You do not have permission to run the RECONFIGURE statement.

I am logged in as "sa".

How can I make it work?

    Thanks.

    Like this:
    Code:
exec sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
    reconfigure with override
    go
    exec sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell', 1
    reconfigure with override
    go

I've tried that and now I am just getting

User does not have permission to perform this action.

    What should I do?

You can't be logged in as sa and running the surface configuration, becasue the SAC is run from the Start-Run-etc ( or Start-All Programs- etc) Windows environment. Open SQL Server, add yourself as a sys admin, and try again.

    Thanks. I'll try that.
