    Unanswered: Unable to connect

    Hi,
    Have a nice day for you.

    I had installed Oracle 10g and forms6i in one server and I configured TNS also. I can connnect the forms 6i from the server. The problem is I cannot connect from the client machine. I gave the same tnsnames to the client(In client Oracle10g,Forms 6i,Oracle 7 is installed,and I copied the tns in all admin directories), the network connection is OK, but I cannot use TNSPING from client, giving TNS timeout error. It is not listening to server. I ran listener on server, its ok. But other databases installed on other servers can access from the said client. What is the wrong side. Here I am pasting the TNS, Listner, Client TNS please look at it and help me to solve the issue.

    1. SQL net in server
    AUTOMATIC_IPC = OFF
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = OFF
    names.directory_path = (TNSNAMES)
    names.default_domain = world
    name.default_zone = world
    names.default_domain=world

    2. Listner on server
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = Cracleproduct.2.0db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = GECOTEST)
    (ORACLE_HOME = Cracleproduct.2.0db_1)
    (SID_NAME = GECOTEST)
    )
    )

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PC306.geco.com.qa)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    )
    3. TNSnames on server
    GECOTEST.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PC306.geco.com.qa)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = GECOTEST)
    )
    )

    4. tns on client

    GECOTEST.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.1.1.87)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = GECOTEST)
    )
    )

    Thanking you in advace,

    Interesting post.
    Given the absolute/relative time lines; I KNOW that Forms 6 was NEVER certified against V10 Oracle RDBMS.

    >I cannot connect from the client machine.
    OK

    Not enough information for an independent observer to reproduce problem.

    I KNOW Oracle V7 can NOT talk to V10.

    SQL*Net is incompatible between V7 & V10; too wide a version gap.

    Version 7 and verison 8.0 used sqlnet 1, Version 8i and abover uses sqlnet 2. The only client that can talk to both sqlnet 1 and sqlnet 2 is the 8i client.

    The V9.1 client can inter-operate between V7 & V10, too.
