Unanswered: Archive log vs hot backup
Dear sir thanks for your quick reply. I have another question.the archive log files, should i keep them forever?i mean can i purged them on a date basis according the hot backup im continously doing?Suppose my hot backup is as at 19 nov 07.can i purge the archive logs dated before19 nov 07 so as to solve the problem of disk space???
According to what i have read, i see it as a solution.can i rely on this?I work in the datawarehouse dept of a telecommunication company. So i dont want to take much risks.
Thanks very much for your help.

Assuming the you can successfully restore the database as of the start of the hot backup, then you do no require archived redo log file prior to that time. You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
