    Unanswered: changing the datatype of a column in a table

    Hi All,
    I run oracle 10g database. i want to change the datatype of an already populated column. Is there a way of altering the datatype of a column if its already populated with values?
    Pls I would appreciate if someone enligthens me on this ASAP

    The best way to try something like this is to ... well ... try it, but on a "dummy" table. You'll find out what works, what doesn't, and that along with the manuals, should get you where you want to be. --=cf

    try ALTER TABLE

    try ALTER TABLE MODIFY COLUMN <column name> <new datatype>;
