Release Manager - Reston, VA
HERE’S WHAT WE NEED…
A Release Manager whose is responsible for the planning, managing and implementing all project releases from request to successful closure. This position is also responsible for coordinating all releases between Software Engineering and Infrastructure, ensuring scheduling and successful delivery. This position is responsible for developing and implementing processes to improve communication and efficiency, as well as planning and initiating key activities while developing key release and control activities and integrate the release activities with Change and Configuration management. Defines release and control quality, policy and procedures in accordance with ITIL and best practices, and assists with defining and implementing Service Management improvement plans.
Develops and maintains a schedule of Releases.
Establishes Release management policies and methodologies, defines and maintains the release management process.
Maintains the calendar for releases, and ensures a mechanism for controlling (updating, tracking, reporting).
Negotiates the exact content, activities and rollout plan for the Release, through liaison with line management and change management.
Collaborates with other IT groups and business units to schedule, coordinate and prioritize planned changes and related activities.
Works with Software Development to coordinate deployments and provide a cohesive mechanism for managing the overall schedule of releases.
Develops task plans to include resourcing, scheduling and service commitments for Infrastructure tasks in support of project activities, and assigns project tasks utilizing existing processes.
Identifies implements and supports tools for release management to allow ease of scheduling, communicating and reporting all releases.
Works with key IT functional groups including Incident management, asset management, service management, configuration management and change management to establish cohesive releases.
Plans and oversees the successful rollout of software and related hardware.
Designs and implements efficient procedures for the communication, distribution and installation of Changes to IT systems.
Communicates and manages expectations of the Customer during the planning and rollout of new Releases.
Monitors activities related to task and release management, identifies and leads implementation of process improvements to improve ticket handling, responsiveness to requests and reporting of status.
HERE’S WHAT WE’RE AFTER…
Successful candidates will possess:
Min. 5 years experience in IT release or project management.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Multiple years experience in a System Administrator capacity is highly desired.
Min. 2 years working knowledge of release standards and methodologies.
3 years experience in utilizing release management tools.
Readiness to work off hours and during peak readiness periods.
Strong customer service skills with ability to instill user trust and confidence in the groups’ knowledge and concern for business needs.
Related Skills and Other Requirements:
Willingness/ability to work off-shifts (evening, night-time, weekend).
Familiar with ITIL framework for Service Management.
Practical experience with key IT systems or applications including (web server, application servers, network topology, databases, LDAP, IP).
Experience in interaction with various internal groups including development and business users.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Excellent problem solving and analytical ability.
