Userids are controlled by the operating system, not in DB2. Same for passwords.

    query in the same direction

    hi
i m new to Db2...I found that the concept of users is different for DB2 than Oracle. Db2 uses OS authentication and does not have a separate concept of users.

But, in the DB2 control center, under object view inside <DB_NAME>\Users and Group Objects\DB Users. It lets me create a new user. I am confused which user is this? How to set its password?

I checked OS Users..this is not listed there. I can change its privilege to connect to db. so how do I use it to connect to db using JDBC?

Can I create this user using an SQL statement?

Do let me know, if anyone has any idea about so many of my questions.
    Thanks in advance.

If you grant access to a user with a GRANT statement, a DB2 user will be created automatically in the catalog (if not already created). However, if the user is not defined to the operating system as a user, then authentication will not be allowed. So basically, there is no real reason to explicitly create DB2 users in the database with the create user statement and you should just ignore it.
