Cool Unanswered: Exclude tablespace from restore not possible??

    Hello gurus,

I encountered the error below when performing full database using RMAN. So instead, I decided to exclude the specific datafile from being backed up by setting CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE tools. Backup has completed.

RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 01/30/2008 06:11:13
    ORA-19501: read error on file "C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\TEST01\TOOLS01.DBF", blockno 577 (blocksize=8192)
    ORA-27070: skgfdisp: async read/write failed
OSD-04016: Error queuing an asynchronous I/O request.
O/S-Error: (OS 23) Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Unfortunately, when I tried to restore and recover the database, I then encountered this error. It says I have no backup for datafile 8 which is the one i excluded from the backup in the first.

RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 01/30/2008 07:09:20
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 8 found to restore

I can't find any document that can exclude this specific tablespace from restoring. Why is it that oracle allows to exclude tablespace from backup but not in restore/recover. I hope someone can shed a light on this.

    Thanks a lot in advance!!

You can use the SKIP TABLESPACE with the RESTORE command.
