Unanswered: how to turn off F8 (extend)

F8 is the shortcut key to step through the code one line at a time durring debug.

I just learned today that it is also a shortcut key that will "Toggle Extend mode on or off"

This 'Extend' feature has the effect of selecting text (blocking/highlighting). To see it work, open a table, go to a field that has lots of text and hit F8 a few times.

For years (access 97, 2000, etc) I have come back from the debugging in the code window to a table view. And after hitting F8 one too many times, I find that I can not highlight the text I want to in a text field. The system highlights everything from the end of the field to where I place my cursor. Now I learned that F8 is the cause of this.

I cannot turn it off. Does anyone know how? Please tell there is a keyboard shortcut to do it (and I already know that hitting F8 again and again does not work).

    Escape?!?
Unbelievable. I went combing through keyboard shortcuts for Access, for Word, for Excel. I was desperate. Thanks for the simple solution. Please don't tell anyone I was too ignorant to figure that out on my own.

Hmmmm how shall I remember this?

Want to know something funny; I've had this problem twice in the past and all I did was reboot because I couldn't work it out either
