    Unanswered: Looking a lookup field

    http://mycirilo.com/img/relationships.jpg

ok this is my first database.. so deal with my lack of knowledge here..

I have a TALENT table that is drawing it's department From another Table called DEPARTMENTS

When i do my first lookup to define the type of field in the TALENT field it appears as i want it with the DepartmentName Being shown but not the departmentID (the primary key)

WONDERFUL!!! now on to step two...

When i edit the field of table MEMBER_TALENT (linking members to talents) i do a lookup to pull the information out of the TALENT table but it will not show the DepartmentName instead it shows the departmentID

What am i missing here..?? please help.

you are using the dreadful table-design lookup wizard.
    that's the way it behaves!
    solution: don't use it.

ok..? so do i use forms to query the info from the other tables? never entering data straight into the tables? if so how do i keep intergrity in my tables without the relationships?

relationships are fine: define them in the relationship window with the integrity settings that you want.

never entering data straight into the tables?
i suggest that you push that right up to the very top of your design goals.
others here may disagree, but i don't want my users to even think about tables, let alone be able to edit them directly.

the table-design lookup wizard brings confusion (as you experienced) but nothing much else. you can do a similar job on a form with a combo box (but without the strange is-it-numeric or is-it-string effect of the wizard).
