    Unanswered: DB Lock ...

I have noticed that sometimes an application holds a lock and doesn't release it. When a snapshot is taken, it shows the application idle time as 20 mins. Once this app. was forced off, timeouts went away. Is there a reason why the application is holding lock even when in idle state (not releasing the lock)?

    Thanks.

I would believe that the application is not issuing a commit or rollback.

Is it possible that a cursor is not being closed? I'm not a developer. Just trying to get an idea. Thanks.

That might be possible, but the only way I know to ensure that the locks are released it with a commit or rollback.

Sometimes an application can go into a loop, or hang, and the connection pooling software thinks it is still running, and keeps it connected without a TCP/IP timeout.
