Unanswered: Schema.ini's and Text File Drivers

    Hello,

Can someone straighten me out on Schema.ini files and text file drivers?

I have an MS Access query which calles a text file driver like this:

    Select *
    FROM [text;HDR=YES; FMT=Delimited; Database=C:\Abc\123]#[TheFile.txt]

Now this normally works with comma sperated value txt files but it doesn't with other forms of seperated data files such as tab files.

I have read the Microsoft links (and past postings here). I know that schema.ini files should be used in such situations but I am don't know how to construct the extended driver information to make it work as in the above example.

Do I have to use DAO to make it work?

No! DAO is the spawn of satan! Well, not really. But, that had a nice ring to it...

At our VB sister site, there have been several discussions of the jet text drivers. This is a tutorial I wrote regarding importing and exporting ADO recordsets to/from text files. In addition, one of the users there (dilletante) has compiled a set of notes regarding schema.ini - it is available here.

Many thanks Lou. I'll check it out.

By the way, I though that Satan's spawn were used car salesmen and lawyers.

Well, yes... but, ADODC & DAO run a close second!
