Unanswered: Sybase IQ query size - 2 questions

    Hi,

I understand that in IQ (using version 12.7) the maximum length of a SQL query is limited to the catalog page size (default is 4096 bytes).

We have a table, not yet used in production, where, due the number of columns and length of column names a simple SELECT * breaks this limit. This causes the database server to crash.

    1) Is this normal for the server to crash in this situation and can anything be done to allow the database server to handle the error more gracefully?

    2) short of renaming column names or increasing the catalog page size is there a workaround to allow the entire table to be queried?

    Exclamation some extra information...

...to add to my additional post as I'm not sure it was clear.

The reason the SELECT * from Table_Name translates to a very long string is due to Sybase IQ resolving the query to its FULL text value,

    eg : select * from table_name becomes

    select [table_owner].[table_name].[column_name], [table_owner].[table_name].[column_name], [table_owner].[table_name].[column_name],....from [table_owner].[table_name]

if we could overcome this our problem would be solved.

    Any suggestions would be greatly
    appreciated
