    Unanswered: Ingres ODBC vnode query

    Hi everyone,

I currently connect to a remote Ingres DB via ODBC. I have Ingres/Net installed on my client PC and have a vnode set up. I have defined a DSN to the database I connect to. This all works perfectly fine. However someone wanted to connect to the same database from another server, however they do not have Ingres/Net installed. Some documentation I read did say how to specify a connection string without having to have a vnode (I think it was called dynamic vnode), however this always gave me an ODBC error about I tried to specify a vnode but didn't supply one (interestingly this happened regardless of have Ingres/Net install or not). Is it possible to connect to a remote DB without having Ingres/Net installed and if so what kind of ODBC connection string is required?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

    Hi Mark,

For ODBC you will need an ingres/net installation for every client PC. The only interfaces that do not require ingres/net are the JDBC and .NET drivers.
