Unanswered: Is there a FREE, Pure web based backup restore tool ?

    HI

I am trying to find a pure web based backup restore tool that can be used on MS SQL 2000.

I have found a few that claim to be web based, but then it tells you to log into your MS SQL server and make some adjustments.

I know that microsoft Enterprise manager comes with a backup / restore tool. but 1) i dont want to have to install a complete copy of 2005 server, and 2) i dont hav ethe physical space to do it right now anyway. all i need to do is move 2 databases from one account to another.

    thanks

Do you have command-line access for the SQL Server box - meaning, can you run DOS commands? If so, you might want to use the built-in OSQL.exe utility that ships with SQL Server. You can run queries from the command line, including commands to back up and restore databases. It's the fastest way to move databases from one server to another without installing software.

No I dont. not on the boxes that these databases are on.

I think i may have figured out an option. I just installed phpBB3 on the websites (http://www.phpbb.com/). In the Admin control Panel there is a database backup and restore program built in.

When setting up the phpBB program, if you leave the "table prefix" field blank, then when you use the backup program, you can get to the entire database, not just the tables for phpBB.

Sort of killing 2 birds with 1 stone as now i have a user forums installed with those websites too.

As phpBB is a GNU license, i was considering ripping apart the backup module and making it a stand alone thing for dtabase backups. It apparently also works with several other types of databses....

problem is the entire thing is written in PHP and i am a strong ASP guy.
