Unanswered: GetXpDeleteFileFormat: No results on Google!

Maintenance plan cleanup task is failing on one of my client servers with the following message:

    Method not found: 'System.String Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.DatabaseMaintenance .TaskUIUtils.GetXpDeleteFileFormat(Boolean, Boolean)'.

A google search for "GetXpDeleteFileFormat" returns zero results, as does a search of the MS website.

    Any clues?

Not an exact match to your error, but it has a familiar ring to it...

well, you went and ruined that by posting here didn't you!

My guess is you have an older build of the client tools on that client machine, perhaps even some binaries of different versions?

You can get syscompare from here, and then check the system where the plan fails with a compareable box for missing/outdated components. Jezemine's hunch is pretty close I think.

Sweet. I will try that, as this is a backup system and the primary system is running fine.
I'm thinking it may be security related, as we switched both boxed over to domain accounts to implement mirroring about a week ago.
    Thanks Robert.
The other links look promising too, jez and flyer. I will check them out. Thanks for your help.

Well, I am forced to conclude that the maintenance plan simply became corrupted.
No matter what parameters or settings I modified, I still got the same ungoogleable error message. But when I recreated the exact same maintenance plan from scratch, it worked fine.
    Oh, Microsoft....you so funny.

    corruption seems unlikely.

The "method not found" error means you had an old build of the assembly that implements the TaskUIUtils class. This assembly seems to be microsoft.sqlserver.maintenanceplantasks.dll

either that, or the assembly that was linking to microsoft.sqlserver.maintenanceplantasks.dll is old. one or the other was stale.

but if it's working now, who cares, right?
