I have an mssql 2000 instance that has been showing 2 or 3 packet errors almost daily for the last couple of months. It wasn't showing any before then. I run sp_monitor every 5 minutes and capture the results into a table. Anyway, this is the only 1 of 30+ sql servers that is showing packet errors.
I've finally have a network guy to look at it but he wants to know how microsoft is determining there has been a packet error.
What is sp_monitor doing and what is it looking at to see if there are packet errors?
What makes it report a packet error?
Is it packet loss or a failed response to a database transaction?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The network guy is going to use a sniffer.
