    Unanswered: Adding Log files

I am using MS2k5, just want to know if we can add a Log file to tempdb in a production server, if needed?

Like shrinking tempdb requires no activity in it and also in some cases server needs to be in single user mode and restarted too.

Does increasing the log files also come in similar cases.

    Thanks in Advance,

Additional log files for any database, including tempdb, will only come in handy if you have the situations with long-running transactions that modify a lot of data, and may potentially "take out" the existing log file. With addition of log files (if the first one is not allowed to grow) you're preventing the entire transaction to be rolled back, but rather "spill" the needed data modifications to continue being recorded in additional log files, until the transaction ends.

nothing but the Key, so help me Codd."
