Unanswered: Dupe: howto: duplicate an Sql2005 database

Today I would like to duplicate my current database
Thi is to create a development version of it on the same server.
I tried the CDW (copy database wizard) in the management studio.
It took me two hours without results.
I tried different ways of using the CDW but got always the same error message: "Source SQL Server instance was not specified.".

On the short term, I would be very happy to get a clone of my database.
On a longer term, I would like to write a (short) VB6 program that would allow me to create automatically a clone from time to time.

    Thanks for your suggestions ...

The most commonly used method is backup/restore while specifying a different name. You can also script the database, and modify the name and devices, and then write an SSIS package to transfer the data. If you have DRI, - you will have to script creation of foreign keys separately and run this script after you transfer the data. You can also set the database offline, copy the devices to a different location, then rename them, and attach a database using a different name using those devices...Many ways, pick one

nothing but the Key, so help me Codd."
