Unanswered: Error Message when registering new server

    Hi All,

I am getting a following error message while trying to register new server through Enterprise Manager:

SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Connectionopen Connect()

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Not sure if this helps but...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888228

Also, are there multiple instances on the new server? Are you using named pipes? What port is the new SQL server running on?

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, it doesn't apply because the new server is MSSQL 7. There is only one instance on the new server. I am not sure how to check if I am using named pipes or not.

This is almost always a permissions issue. Have you tried...
    <Spit Take> pppbbbbbb!!!!!!! <\Spit Take>
....I'm sorry. Did you say SQL Server 7?
    Whoa.
Are you trying to log on with SQL Server account or your Windows Network login?

Have you verified that you can login with this account on the server box?
Can you ping the server from your local box?

I tried and got the same error I got before:

DB-Library: Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist. Unable to connect: SQL Server does not exist or network access denied.
    Net-Library error 1326: ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

    If this command:
    ISQL -Uuser -Sserver
...runs on your physical server, but does not work on your client box, then you have a network issue, not a database issue.
Try connecting using the IP address instead of the database server name, since you say you can ping the IP address.
