    Unanswered: Database Link

    I am trying to establish a connection between my new demo-database (VDSDEMO) and my real database (VDS). Unfortunately without much success.

    Excerpts from my tnsnames.ora:

    VDS.WORLD = (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = VDS-ORACLE02)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = VDS)))

    VDSDEMO.WORLD = (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PC13658)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = VDSDEMO)))

    I have tried this:

    connect system/password1@vdsdemo.world;

    create database link VDSLINK
    connect to VDS
    identified by password2
    using 'VDS.WORLD';

    select count(*) from feature@VDSLINK;

    But then I get the error-message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

    if you have global_names=true then the name of your link should match both the "using" value as well as the tnsnames.ora entry.
