    Unanswered: i need help

    i have 2 questions..
    a. I want to update my data for my passport no. Example - 777-88888.. So i want to remove '-' in the middle on my passport no. How to do that? I'm new with oracle..

    b. I have one table with 3 columns. One column keeps date of birth with datatype varchar2. So i want to update that data and also column to format date..

    Please help..

http://tahiti.oracle.com is where you can find all the Oracle manuals.

What would your instructor say if he learned you had others doing your homework assignment for you?
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

So who is responsible for designing & deploying an application with '-' pasport numbers which now need to be removed & placing "dates" into varchar2?

    Ouch!
First step should be to convert the VARCHAR2 column into a DATE column.

Once you have done that, you can retrieve the data in any format you like (check out the to_char() function) without having to update your data.
