    Smile Unanswered: performance and adding a new column

    Hi ,
    I have very huge table while adding column in that table it take too much time how can we add column as soon as possible

    Smile performance status for huge table

    I have one huge table in database which have above 120 columns and very heavy data if we divide this table into 2 or 3 will performance become better for application level

    adding a column takes as long as it takes

    your only alternative is not to add the column, but create a separate table for the new column using the same primary key

    as for performance, have you indexed the table properly?
