I'm using Oracle 11g at Linux Redhat Enterprise 4. I'm kinda confused when talking about the details in table and index compression
I know that the previous compression (bulk insert, update) will start when a certain threshold reached (which will make PCTFREE 0, thus the block will be fully compressed), but what I don't get it is, OLTP compression, let's say the threshold is reached, the compression starts and the compression result will be lower than the threshold
And there comes a new data, it will wait until the threshold reached and compressed, will it be done until there is no space between the compressed data and the threshold ??
Oh yeah, I also wonder if the index compression and table compression has the same mechanism, does anyone has any reference that could clear my doubts ???
