    Unanswered: restore db (SQL 2000)

Due to a deleted log file, I need to restore a multi-file database from its backup. I've never done this before (at least not in the current context), and I'm writing to ask for guidance.

The MDF files are all still there and the database is currently detached. The LDF file is missing. (I tried to get SQL server to attach and create a new log file but it won't do it).

If I do a restore, do the old MDF's just get overwritten or will it be a problem that they're already there?

    How is this best handled?

The RESTORE command has the ability to overwrite existing files, when you specify REPLACE. Most backup packages give you a checkbox for "Overwrite existing", when doing a restore.
