Unanswered: Spliting text of a field into two

    Dear All

I have imported employees data from access table to oracle table. In ORACLE i used first name. middle name and last name field. But in access all three or two names were stored as whole name. Now how can i split this name field into first and middle name etc.

    e.g.

my name was stored in ACCESS table as
    WASIM YASIN
i want to write code which finds first space and trim remaining text and store as first name then find another space and store as middle name. etc.

    Thanks.

    Wasim

Combine INSTR (which will detect space) with SUBSTR (which will select two parts of the string), as well as TRIM (which might be needed to remove superfluous spaces).
