    Arrow Unanswered: Restoration/Migration 8.1 to 9.1

    Hi Guys

Recently i restored dbs created under 8.1 to 9.1.

I did not do instance migration nor did i install 9.1(ESE).

    I already had 8.1(ESE) & 9.1 (ESE) installed,server instances created,up,running.

I created dbs under 8.1 & then using REDIRECT RESTORE ,restored them into 9.1 (by taking offline backup, copying the image files to new instance's home directory & running restore script). It worked for me.

What i want to know is can i call this as a migration?

Is there other way of doing this?

Whatever i have done is right way of doing it or not?
    Regards
    Abhijeet

    Yes, it is a migration.

    Yes, there are other ways.

Is it the right way? It depends on your particular situation.

Basically, there are two ways to migrate from v8 to v9:

    1) migrate instance and migrate db commands
    2) create new instance under v9, restore v8 offline db image into v9 instance

The best migration related info is the Migration Guide found here:
