Unanswered: How to access tomy db2 database Version 7.1 under windows

    Hello,
    I'm e newbee to db2.
I customer gave me via xcopy a DB2 Version 7.1 database:

    The Folder Structure is:
    SQL00001
    DB2EVENT
    SQLLOGDIR
    SQLT0000.0
    ...
    SQLTMPLK

    I've installed DB2 v.8.1
Is it possible to migrate this database without a normal backup?

    thanks id advance

I don't think a filesystem copy can help you
I have never seen someone doing this
try list db directory on c: or the disk you copied the files
    catalog db on c:
    db2 migrate ....
try backup in v7 and restore in v8 would migrate the db

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

    I agree. Ask for
    - a backup-image and/or
    - the output of a "db2move db export" operation and/or
    - all the tables in exported in "*.ixf" format and/or
    - the DDL generated by db2look

those are usefull stuff for you to re-create the database (and we can help you).

Somehow questions like this make me think that the database may not have been "given by a customer", but, how do I put it, obtained by some other means...
