Unanswered: MSDE: Backup file getting too long

    Hello !
I have an SQL Server 2000 MSDE database and i run a script daily in order to
create a backup of the database.
The problem is that this file has become 50GB !!
The database must be a lot smaller.
What should i do ? Delete the large 50GB file so that the database is backed up in a new smaller file ?
If i ever want to restore the database will i need the large 50GB file or the smaller one will be ok also ?

    Thanks !!

You need to add the INIT parameter to the backup script, if you want the file to be overwritten to each time it is run. Without INIT, it assumes you just want to append.
