    Unanswered: Failure Audit / Login Failed

    I have the following errors:

    SQL SERVER ERROR LOG:

    Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: <named pipe>]
    Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
    Event Viewer shows the same thing under 'Failure Audit'

    These errors are occuring basically every second SQL Server is running, very likely clogging up the machine.

    Only 2 db's are active so not a huge problem at the moment, but would like to sort it!!

    This looks like it is SQL 2005. If so, go to the errorlog, and get the IP address of the machine that is giving you these errors. There is likely some process there that is trying (and failing) to log into your instance.

    Depending on the process, you may want to have this application use something other than the sa login, as that is the system administrator.

    OK. You may be able to get the hostname from SQL Server Profiler.

    Start->Programs->MS SQL Server 2005->Performance Tools->Profiler.

    you will want to trace the login Failed Event. You can remove any others, as they will just be noise for this.

    Right.

    File - New Trace
    Connected with Windows Authentication
    Under Events Selection Checked Show All Events
    Checked Audit Login Failed

    Get the same error as before

    Under NTUsername I get errors for datatron and errors for system
