    Unanswered: DB2 online backup hangs

    AIX 5.2
    DB2 8.2 FP 15

The daily online backup has been hanging for 8 hours. After investigating, I didnt find any other application with locks. I tried forcing the application off, but it is still connected. Then I tried forcing everything off, and the backup is still connected.

It looks like the online backup is in a limbo state, and not sure how to stop it without stopping the instance.

I had a backup hang once. Forcing the connect never did anything and the only way to fix it was to bounce the instance.

Try "db2 list utilities show detail" (or "db2pd -utilities") to see if there is any work being done by the backup.

"It does not work" is not a valid problem statement.

These numbers don't appear to be changing.

    SOLUTION

After opening a PMR with IBM, they informed us we would need to bounce the instance to resolve the hanging backup.

    db2stop force
    ipclean -a
    db2start

    This resolved the issue.
