Question Unanswered: Creating a new Named Instance

I am currently running SQL2005 (SP2) with one named instance.

A vendor is to install a new software package which they would like to do under its own separate named instance. The vendor will be creating the new named instance.

I understand that it is necessary to use the installation disk to create a new named instance.

Will the vendor need to have the SP2 disk to create the new named instance? If so, will the vendor have to reboot the server prior to installing

you will need the installation disc (just run through and select database services, it'll prompt you to name the instance). You'll then have to apply the service pack afterwards (it'll only update what needs to be updated afterwards). You shouldn't have to reboot as long as the 2nd Database service is stopped when you run the Service Pack installer.
