    Unanswered: Ora-12518

    hello everybody,
    I am facing the problem while starting my application in the oracle10g database

    Out of memory. Shutting down.
    java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:

    Yeah, a tricky one - there's only 2,120 hits for this error on Google.

    Did it ever work? If it did work before, did you change anything? What application is it that you are trying to start?
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.

    What OS are you on ?? If 32 bit Windows, what is the memory footprint of oracle.exe ... Windows has a limitation of approx: 1.7 gig. You may find that the footprint is "bumping" the limit which will cause the listener to refuse connections ...
    Even though the SGA is sized below the limit, as each user attaches, it increases the memory usage of the oracle.exe footprint.
