Unanswered: SQLIO : Performance on SSDs!!! Interesting results on Server7 aka Server2008R2
I issued a command like this:
sqlio –kW –s60 –frandom –o32 –b8 –LS –Fparam.txt
The 3 OSes, all on the same piece of hardware:
Server2008: Host for VMware Server 8GB RAM in total
Server2003R2: VM on VMware server 3GB RAM
Server7/Server2008R2: VM on VMware server 3GB RAM
Storage: 6 Intel X25-E 32GB SSD on RAID 0
Server: Intel Modular Server
To my surprise, Windows Server 7 aka Server2008R2 is giving better IOPS than Server2008!!! How could VM perform better than the host? Amazing...
Results are shown in the attachments.
Going to try out X25-M as the new 8820 firmware seems to maintain the random write speed at 70MB/s... I can't imagine when all the 14 HDD bays are loaded with these monsters......
anyway, what's the right command options to push the drive to its limit?
