    Smile Unanswered: Oracle Data Dump

    Hi Guys

Thanx for your help in advance
I got an oracle data dump. I'm more comfortable in Access / Excel environment, how do I import this data into an access database so that I can do analysis and generate analysis reports, sorry to sound naive, but apart from knowing the name oracle, I dont know nothing about it. thanks again guys

Do you have access to an Oracle base?

The utility you need is called import; but named "imp".
    At the command line do:
    imp help=yes

The import utility is documented in the Utilities Manual which can be found at Search and Download Oracle Database, Application Server, and Collaboration Suite Documentation

Your boss should consider hiring somebody who knows more than just how to spell Oracle.
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

If it's really a data pump export, then the command will be impdp and you will need copy the dump to a directory on the Oracle server and prepare the environment to handle the file (create an Oracle directory).

Details can be found in the Oracle manual.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/dp_import.htm

But I agree with anacedent, your company should really hire a professional Oracle DBA...

Guys thanks for the good work and all the help

I managed to get my oracle thing going and imported the dump file into Oracle 10g XE

I used the following instruction at the C: prompt

    imp system/systempassword fromuser=User1 touser=User2 file=samepage.dmp log=implog.txt

However I still got a single table without data in it. Im supposed to get a whole shema, many tables with a lot of data.

what have I missed i need your guidance

Guys again thanks a million in advance

The import utility is way too dumb to simply pick on 1 table & decide to not load it.
Does implog.txt contain any clues about the table which is missing data?
I suspect the table was empty when export was run which produced samepage.dmp
