I'm doing a report about coverage dates... and i want it to be summarized according to year and specified how many dates in a particular year...and i don't know how to use the pivot table...

here is my example of data:

    1-Apr-99
    1-Apr-99
    1-Apr-99
    1-Apr-04
    1-Apr-04
    1-Apr-99
    1-Apr-99
    1-Apr-02
    12-Apr-99
    22-Apr-99
    29-Apr-99
    29-Apr-99

    any help is highly appreciated

Create another column called year before the date column
Then add a month column (based on your date as well)
    Then create a pivot table
drag the year column in as a row
Drag the month column in as a row as well.
then drag the date column in as data (use count instead of the sum)

Yes there are lots of worksheet functions you can use, but Pivot table is a very good option.
